About Weekend Backpacks

Weekend BackPacks

Weekend feeding ("BackPack") programs that provide food to children have grown dramatically in recent years. Weekend feeding programs began with a single elementary school in Arkansas in 1995, and expanded in 2006 to a nationwide campaign through Feeding America's creation of The BackPack Program, which now serves more than 500,000 children. Small, local organizations, such as the businesses in Amo, independently sponsor weekend feeding programs. It is estimated that over 800,000 children nationwide receive food backpacks on any given weekend.

These backpacks will help eradicate food insecurity in the Mill Creek community.  Forty-one children at Mill Creek and East Elementary schools will be receiving the blessing of a Weekend Backpack.
